What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a treatment used to relieve tension and treat illness, based on the theory that there are reflex points on the feet, hands, and head linked to every part of the body. Reflexology is also known as zone therapy and considers there is a system of zones and reflex areas that reflect an image of the body on the feet and hands. This Reflexology Course in Bath will teach you all you need to know to perform a wonderful Reflexology treatment.

Pressure is applied to the feet and hands with specific thumb, finger, and hand techniques that stimulate energy and release blockages.

Reflexology treatments are mainly used to release tension and stress. Stress can be a huge factor in worsening many health issues, and not dealing with that build-up can create blocked energy in your body. Reflexology works to release this tension and therefore relieves this energy blockage. It allows your body to achieve a level of equilibrium, putting it into an ideal state to tackle anything from major to minor health concerns.

On top of releasing this stress, a reflexology session also helps increase blood circulation, release toxins, reduce and diminish pain and can induce a deep state of relaxation.

Once completed, where can you work?

This Reflexology Course in Bath is a Level 3 Diploma and qualifies you to work independently and start your own practice, empowering you to select your own hours and be in control of your work/life balance. Alternatively, you can be employed by a salon, clinic, health club, or spa. You may also find work in the NHS, a hospice, or another healthcare setting.

Course Information

This course offers a Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology for Complementary Therapists and provides a thorough and comprehensive training program spanning over a 6-7 month period. Achieving this full qualification requires significant dedication, including the completion of 100 case studies, reflecting the commitment necessary to succeed in this field. As part of your training, you will need to manage your case studies diligently outside of classroom hours. If you have any questions or wish to discuss the course details further, please feel free to contact us.

There is an option to lower the case study requirements to just 40 case studies.  This is if you decide to pursue the slightly different ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Reflexology Treatments.  This is still a recognised and valid qualification, but you would be unable to join the Association of Reflexologists with this qualification.  Do give us a call on 07949 674524 if you wish to discuss your course options.

Throughout the Reflexology course, classes are conducted in a relaxed and supportive environment, incorporating engaging talks, lectures, visual aids, and detailed practical demonstrations. To ensure personalised attention, we limit class sizes to a maximum of 12 students. This allows you to work closely with your tutor, where you will not only learn essential techniques but also gain valuable insights on how to protect yourself from strain and stress while performing body therapies.

An integral aspect of your training with us is the development of your intuition, enabling you to tailor reflexology techniques to meet each client’s unique needs. Join us and take the first step toward a rewarding career in reflexology!

Level 3 Qualification and Accreditation

Studying for a Level 3 qualification is crucial as it signifies that you have achieved a nationally recognised standard of expertise in your field. This recognition not only enhances your professional credibility but also provides you with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in your career.

Ofqual is the regulator of qualifications, examinations and assessments in England and vocational qualifications in Northern Ireland. The RQF (Regulated Qualifications Framework) is a new way of recognising skills and qualifications. It does this by awarding credit for units (small steps of learning) and enabling learners to gain qualifications at their own pace along flexible routes.

The RQF has four main aims: 1. ensure a wider range of achievements can be recognised within a more inclusive qualifications framework; 2. establish a qualifications system that is more responsive to individual and employer needs; 3. establish a simpler qualifications framework that is easier for all users to understand; 4. reduce the burden of bureaucracy in the accreditation and assessment of qualifications.

This Reflexology course is accredited by ITEC (International Therapy Examination Council www.itecworld.co.uk). Upon qualification, practitioners can join the prestigious Association of Reflexologists (AOR), IPTI (Independent Professional Therapists International www.iptiuk.com), BCMA (British Complementary Medicine Association www.bcma.co.uk) and CThA (Complementary Therapy Association).

Course Entry Requirements

There are two options:

1. For VTCT/ITEC Level 3 Massage Practitioners: This is a Level 3 postgraduate course. You should already have VTCT/ITEC units 383, 384 and 385 or iUCT38, iUCT21, iUCT34.

iUCT38/Unit 383 – Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies.

iUCT 21/Unit 384 – Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies

iUCT34/Unit 385 – Business Practice for Complementary Therapies

Your previous qualification needs to be within the last 3 years, or you will need to revise and resit your Anatomy and Physiology exam, plus resubmit your coursework for Units iUCT21 and iUCT34.  We can give you free access to our online PowerPoint documents for these Units.

However, if your Anatomy and Physiology qualification is within the last 3 years, please be advised that ITEC only gives a 60% mark for your previous Anatomy and Physiology qualification. This will, in turn, affect your overall Reflexology grade.   If you want to achieve a higher mark than this, you will need to resit the Anatomy and Physiology exam.  The fee for this is included with the Reflexology exam fee.

2.  For beginners: If you are a complete beginner, you will also need to study and attain iUCT38, iUCT21, and iUCT34.

We are able to offer our online course materials, tutor support if needed and PowerPoints for these units for FREE.

You will self-study the “Knowledge of Anatomy,  Physiology and Pathology”; “The Principles and Practice of Complementary Therapies” and the “Business Practice for Complementary Therapies”.   You will need to purchase the course textbook: Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Therapists and Healthcare Professionals by Ruth Hull et al, approximately £19.  You will also have homework set and a supportive tutor available to answer your queries.

For all students: You will need to bring 2 small and 1 medium towel.  You should bring soft shoes/slippers, or you can work in bare feet.

You will need to purchase the course textbook, “The Complete Guide to Reflexology” by Ruth Hull et al. (approximately £16), and “Reflexology: A Concise Guide to Foot and Hand Massage for Enhanced Health and Wellbeing” (approximately £5) by Rosalind Oxenford.

You should be of reasonably good health and not suffering from any current medical conditions which would hinder your ability to give and receive a treatment. Please let us know if you have any medical conditions or any individual learning needs you feel we should be aware of.

First Aid Certificate

If you don’t already have one, we highly recommend you undertake an Emergency First Aid course before the end of the training period, as most insurers and professional bodies require this before accepting your application. These are taught by many different providers and tend to run over one day/six hours.

Please follow this link to the full syllabus.
